Teaching Lab Studio presents
About the Fellowship
The Robbins Fellowship for School Innovation brings accomplished educators together to rethink what school can be–and build it in real classrooms.
Led by Teaching Lab Studio, this selective, two-year fellowship supports school teams as they design, test, and refine new models of teaching and learning. Fellows build on their schools’ strengths while reimagining how time, staffing, curriculum, and technology can create deeper learning experiences for students.
Our inaugural cohort of 12 Fellows launched in fall 2026. Together, they are developing models designed to strengthen academic learning, cultivate student independence, and generate practical knowledge that other schools can build on.

Our Theory
Strong schools have the expertise to imagine better learning experiences. What they often need is the time, flexibility, and specialized support to build and test them.
The Robbins Fellowship creates those conditions. It gives school teams a dedicated space to examine the structures shaping students’ days–from schedules and staffing to how students progress through learning–and explore what could work better.
The work begins with a clear vision for students. Academic mastery matters, alongside the independence, collaboration, and problem-solving students need beyond school. Teams design toward that vision, drawing on established instructional practices and new possibilities offered by technology.
How does it work?
The Robbins Fellowship in Action
Each Fellow leads a school-based team at a designated pilot site, typically one or two grade levels. With support from school and network leadership, these sites give teams room to test new approaches within the realities of an operating school.
01
Design a coherent learning experience
Teams bring instruction, curriculum, schedules, staffing, and technology together around their vision for students. They explore approaches such as self-paced learning, flexible grouping, and more.
02
Test ideas and act on evidence
Teams put an initial model into practice, gather evidence from classrooms, and make targeted improvements. Coaching and strategy sessions help them address implementation challenges and determine what to test next.
03
Build with specialized support
Teaching Lab Studio works alongside teams, providing co-design expertise, coaching, professional learning, engineering and product-development capacity, AI infrastructure, and measurement support.
04
Learn across schools
School visits, ongoing collaboration, and four in-person convenings during the first year connect teams to one another’s work.
