Instructional coherence is needed to reverse the alarming state of education in the US. Coherence refers to the alignment and synergy across processes and tools that guide the daily choices and work of teachers and students. More coherence leads to greater efficiency, engagement, and learning.

We must act quickly, but we also must act differently. Given the recent availability and potential of genAI, our big bet is to leverage AI to create instructional coherence. However, we have often found that promising uses of AI in education prematurely abandon pedagogically best practices, leading to incoherence at the expense of adoption. We don’t believe this trade-off has to be made. That’s why we are committing resources to thoughtfully discover, design, test, and scale AI-enabled solutions.
