Betsy Lawson-Blank is an educator and licensed social worker with more than 18 years of experience in schools. At Teaching Lab Studio, she works across operations and ELA, with a particular interest in how AI can support great teaching while keeping teachers, students, and the realities of classrooms at the center.
Betsy started her career as an elementary school teacher and has since worked as a school leader, literacy consultant, social worker, and instructional coach. Most recently at Teaching Lab, she led a team of ELA coaches working across more than 70 New York City schools. Her background in both education and social work shapes how she approaches the work: she is interested not only in what good instruction looks like, but in what it takes for people and organizations to actually change. She pays close attention to the relationships, behaviors, and systems that can make new practices stick.
Betsy holds an M.S.W. in Children and Families from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration from National Louis University, an M.S.Ed. in Urban Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Art History from Virginia Tech. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State. When not at work, you can find Betsy enjoying the great outdoors with her husband and two daughters.
